Khula Let’s Grow Together member writes letter to her younger self

What would you tell your younger self if you could? Hlengiwe Ntamane's answer is a letter of thanks, written for our women's month series.

As part of the Randburg Sun’s women’s month series, we asked women from across the area to write a letter to their younger selves. Hlengiwe Ntamane, from Khula Let’s Grow Together, shared the following letter, written to her younger self, Mhlengi.

Dear Mhlengi, I am writting this letter to you in retrospect, to say thank you. Thank you for being respectful, joyful, loving, and well-behaved. Thank you for listening to your parents and teachers, and for embracing the opportunities that come your way. You may have not realised in you long before you understood what it meant.

Growing up in a family of 12 was a blessing, even during the moments when you felt unseen. God was preparing you in ways you could not yet understand. He protects those He calls for a greater purpose and reveals that purpose at the right time.

Thank you for making good choices, for respecting your parents, and for choosing your friends wisely. Thank you for believing in yourself and for remaining humble.

Some childhood experiences stayed with you. Seeing your best friend being hit by a car after school in Grade 1 is something you still remember clearly. Yet, through life’s difficult moments, you remained hopeful. Most importantly, thank you for allowing yourself to be a child. To play, to dream, and to create beautiful memories.

Today, I understand that every experience helped shape the woman you are becoming. Keep believing in yourself, Mhlengi. You are beautiful, and worry of all and every blessing. You have a beautiful life to offer to the world.

With love, Your older self.
