The family of an internationally renowned trumpeter Fezile ‘Feya’ Faku is reeling in shock after thugs violently ransacked the award-winning musician’s house for the second time in two weeks.
“I now fear for my family’s safety, because the thugs didn’t only steal my valuable items, but also violently smashed my Linden house’s doors for the reasons I don’t know because they got what they wanted. I am really devastated because I don’t know what will happen next,” says Faku.
Faku said on 12 August he lost his expensive music instruments including an iPad.
He claimed that everything that he lost is to the value of over R150 000.
Apparently, on 27 July the same thing happened and televisions were stolen.
“ Yesterday [12 August], I just took my kids for a treat at about 10am in the morning, when the thugs broke into my house. Returning from the shops, I found it in a bad state. The sliding doors were smashed, vandalised and everything I loved was gone. They even opened wardrobes and took some of the hidden instruments waiting to be fixed. Two weeks ago, they forced their way through windows after breaking burglars. It is like these people know when I am in and out of the house, or asleep,” he said.
Faku further added that two special and expensive trumpets made of gold brass, and that one he bought in New York, are gone.
“My instruments were very expensive. I just feel like they stole part of my body,” he said.
Faku, who is currently on tour across the globe promoting his latest album, said everything that is happening blocks his way because he can’t go out to perform without his valuable music instruments.
Linden Police spokesperson Captain Alex Vermaak confirmed that a case has been opened.
“We are busy investigating, but unfortunately, so far we don’t have suspects,” said Capt Vermaak.
