Crime scene management by compliance

LINDEN – Police urge residents to preserve crime scenes.

Linden Police urge the community to preserve crime scenes until the forensics team comes to collect evidence.

Residents are warned by the police and asked to please not touch any evidence while waiting for forensics to come and take fingerprints and collect evidence. Linden Police corporate communications officer Constable Carol Mulamu said that it takes between 24 and 48 hours for the LCRC (Local Criminal Record Centre) to get to a crime scene, “There is no forensics team at the Linden Police Station, police stations share the LCRC which is based at a different location and this might result in a slow turn-around time,” said Const Mulamu.

Touching evidence can interrupt the chain of investigations. Residents are urged to contact their investigating officer who will be assigned to their case when they are not sure what to do at a crime scene while they are waiting for forensics. “Details of the investigating officer are sent via SMS to the victim – they should call and make sure they do not contaminate the evidence,” concluded Const Mulamu.
