The new prefects for Blairgowrie Primary School have been announced at a special assembly held at the school. Jamie Chait who teaches Grade 7 maths, social sciences and life orientation said that the school was very proud of their new prefects. “The criteria that we were looking for in our new prefects were leadership abilities, integrity, honesty and responsible,” he said. Chait added that the prefects were nominated and voted for by the grade 6 classes as well as the teachers who then chose the final 30. He explained that the newly elected prefects would be the school’s public figures as well as address and chair meetings.
Meghan Seaborne from Albertsville who is the head girl said that being selected as the school’s head girl was a big challenge, one that she will tackle head on. “I am very excited to know that I can do my bit to help the school,” she said. She explained that she wanted to use her influence as the head girl to unite the different grades in the school to show them that what possibilities they could achieve together. She hoped to become an astronomer one day.
Head boy for the school Jason Vermeulen is also the captain for his house-team Dundee said that he was speechless when his name was announced as the head boy. “I was surprised and happy at the same time. I want to be a balanced leader and I want to show the pupils that you don’t have to wear a special blazer to be a leader,” he said. Vermeulen added that when he grows up he wanted to be an accountant or a scientist or a lawyer.
