Pupils learn about giving to others

ROBIN HILLS – Pupils at King's School Robin Hills pre-primary give to the less fortunate while still having fun.

Pupils at King’s School Robin Hills pre-primary donned their slippers in support of Reach for a Dream Foundation.

Jill van der Walt, a teacher at the school said that they wanted to teach the children to have compassion for those who were less fortunate than they were. “This is our third year working with the foundation and it enables us to talk to the pupils about the sick children. We explain to them that the money goes towards making the sick children’s dreams come true,” she said.

She added that all the 125 pupils in the pre-school bought a Slipper Day sticker for R10 on 5 August and that it was their community initiative.

A few days before Slipper Day the pre-school held their own elections on 2 August where the pupils were taught about the elections. The pupils got to experience first hand what the elections were all about.

“As a pre-school, we have been encouraging our children to pray for our country and its leaders and as election day was approaching, we decided to show them in a very practical way what it means to vote and what the whole process is all about,” Van der Walt said. She explained that the children had so much fun and were able to understand what it meant to vote and even accompanied their parents to the voting stations to make their mark the following day.
