Alleged taxi driver shot during commute
NORTH RIDING - Man in his 20's shot and left for dead at beginning of weekend.
A man, believed to be in his 20s, was shot and killed on Epsom Road on 11 November.
ER24 spokesperson, Russel Meiring said that paramedics arrived on the scene after they were called by a local security company. On arrival, paramedics found a man lying motionless in the middle of the road.
“ER24 paramedics assessed the man and found that he had sustained a gunshot wound to his chest as well as his leg and showed no signs of life,” said Meiring. Unfortunately, the man had already succumbed to his injuries. Nothing could be done for the man and he was declared dead on the scene.
The details surrounding the incident are not yet known but local authorities were there for further investigations.
According to a News24 article, the man was a taxi driver and was travelling from the Randburg taxi rank. The article stated that the victim noticed he was R10 short and threatened to drop the passengers off in a central place in Cosmo City. According to an anonymous witness, he heard gunshots coming from the taxi. The driver was left in the road.
The above witness account, however, could not yet be confirmed by the Randburg Sun as comment from the Florida police spokesperson, Captain Mtila-Dikolomela is awaited.
