Councillor Alexander desires a safer festive season

SUNDOWNER – Residents are advised to use the Look and Log process to report issues of service delivery.

Ward 143 councillor Wendy Alexander, aspires to create a joyful and prosperous City of Johannesburg where all residents are safe.

“We need a city which is inclusive and tolerant of all people; a city where children can grow up and be afforded opportunities to succeed in their lives,” she said.

As criminal activities increase at this time of the year, councillor Alexander warned residents to be alert and aware of occurrences in their surroundings.

“Check your vehicles when locking them at shopping centres and other public spaces. Don’t walk away from your vehicle until you see that it is locked. Don’t leave valuables in your vehicles,” she said.

She advised residents to check whether their home security systems were in working order before they leave for their holiday destinations. They should arrange to have their alarm systems tested, with their security companies.

“Put up a printed copy of emergency numbers in the house and save relevant emergency numbers on your cellphone as well as your next-of-kin details,” she emphasised.

Alexander also revealed her Christmas wish list:

  • Upgrades and maintenance of the current infrastructure
  • Combatting crime and drugs
  • Resolving billing issues
  • Creating multipurpose community spaces
  • Creating an economy for residents to thrive in, within the ward.

She added that the City relied on its residents to log service delivery failures so that they have the opportunity to attend to them.

“If issues are not logged on the City’s service delivery systems, it is likely unaware of the breakdowns. The City relies on you to assist with the Look and Log process. That way you hold the local government officials accountable for service delivery,” she said.

She indicated that she serves as the interface between the residents of Ward 134 and the municipal officials and, should logged issues not be adequately addressed, residents can bring them to her attention.

Plans for next year:

Alexander promised that she would continue to work with all the relevant stakeholders to ensure great service delivery and she would get to the bottom of ongoing issues to find workable solutions. “Many of our issues will involve a well-coordinated plan, which will include residents, City entities, non-governmental organisations and other stakeholders,” she concluded.

Suburbs in Ward 134 are Sundowner, Northwold, part of North Riding, Boskruin and part of Randpark Ridge.

She emphasised that her commitment was to be visible and assist residents when they need her most and she wished residents in her ward a wonderful festive season and a most prosperous and healthy New Year.
