House robberies in the Linden precinct are a growing concern

LINDEN – Police can only act on information reported by the public, to the station.

Police encourage victims of crime to report incidents to the station after another weekend of multiple house robberies.

Since 21 July, there have been house robberies in suburbs such as Ferndale, Darrenwood, Blairgowrie, Windsor West, Linden and Malanshof as well as Cresta.

“We are still experiencing a high level of housebreaking incidents right throughout the precinct, which is a concern,” said Linden Police Station’s spokesperson, Captain Walter Spencer.

“The suspects who break in are prepared and willing to escalate break-ins to armed robbery.”

Another growing concern for the police is armed robberies of pedestrians. The station had two reported incidents over the weekend, which involved one armed suspect with a firearm in Blairgowrie on 22 July and another one on 23 July in Fontainebleau involving four men in a dark sedan.

Spencer urged the community to install house alarms which were connected to security companies.

“We work on statistics of crimes reported, which means we are using past information to predict the future and this can only be successful if all crimes are reported. That way we can identify if there is a specific pattern happening in an area.”

He reiterated that good community relations and interaction could help to prevent all sorts of crimes.
