The Honeydew police enjoyed a whopping 74 arrests in only a week of activities from 11 February.
Honeydew police spokesperson Captain Balan Muthan said, “Most individuals were arrested for smaller crimes such as shoplifting and reckless driving, but we also had arrests for a few serious cases such as rape, assault, and concealment of birth.”
Concealment of birth is a crime where a person disposes of the body of any newly born child with intent to conceal the fact of its birth, whether the child died before, during or after birth.
Five individuals were arrested for attempted burglary, both at residential and business premises.
“What has really helped increase the numbers of arrests at the station is the community reporting crimes. The more crime there is reported, the more arrests we can make. We encourage all community members to engage with the police and report crime in their area.”
The suspects arrested will appear in various magistrates courts in the area soon.
