Wheel well exists because of your kindness

STRIJDOM PARK – A community day in Eldorado Park collaborated with The Car Seats for Kids campaign to help alleviate child accidents one car seat at a time.

The Wheel Well organisation had the privilege of donating a car seat from The Car Seats for Kids campaign to a family in need.

Little Taygon Scholtz has cerebral palsy and at two years old she only weighed 8kg. Founder of Wheel Well, Peggie Mars, described Taygon as ‘such a cute little poppet’. This donation gives her the opportunity to travel safely to physiotherapy with her mom and dad, illustrating the power of the #GiftofSafety.

Data released by the Road Traffic Management Corporation for road accidents, revealed bittersweet results. While the overall death toll has reduced, fatalities for children have increased. Since then, Wheel Well has redoubled its efforts towards road safety for children and they said that the support of the community in projects would be deeply appreciated.

“We have had the most amazing morning on 1 June in Eldorado Park. Cartrack purchased 19 brand new car seats for the event, organised by community activists, to focus on road safety for children as part of Child Protection Week. What Wheel Well thought was notable about this event was that the parents who did get car seats, did so for families on their street who needed them the most, but cannot always afford them,” said Mars.

One of the Eldorado Park community efforts towards Child Protection Week was a walk hosted in remembrance of children who have passed away due to road crashes. According to Wheel Well, they felt honoured and privileged to be invited to such an intimate event of remembrance of beloved children who departed way too soon. Mars was ‘deeply affected’ to walk with friends and family who lost a child only two weeks before the event.

Bodies such as Wheel Well have existed because of community kindness. Cash donations to Wheel Well help to ensure the delivery of excellent service to parents. Every bit helps the organisation to reach more parents and help them meet their car seat needs.
