Illegal advertising a problem along Malibongwe Drive

NORTH RIDING – Illegal advertising a problem again on Malibongwe Drive.

The problem of illegal advertising is once again rearing its head along Malibongwe Drive.

The Trailer Boys are suffering as a result of this illegal advertising right outside of their property in North Riding.

“Not only is this an illegal activity with regards to the Illegal Outdoor Advertising Act but it is also a traffic safety issue,” said The Trailer Boys branch manager Mark King.

“We at The Trailer Boys are being severely affected by this illegal activity. I have no issue with them offering the discounts they are offering but the fact that they are doing this illegally is a point of concern.

“They are also standing in the middle of the road, in Ascot Drive, and attempting to stop potential customers from coming into our premises.”

Ward 101 councillor Dalu Cele said he was aware of the issue and had reported it to Metro police.

“Illegal advertising is a major issue across the ward and many parts of the city,” he said.

“Illegal advertising is a bylaw infringement, therefore I have asked the Metro police to address the issue along with many parts of Ward 101, including Malibongwe Drive. Should residents come across illegal advertising, they should report the issue to the Metro police on 011 375 5911.”

Metro police spokesperson, Wayne Minnaar affirmed this, saying all outdoor advertising must be paid for
“It [outdoor advertising] is managed in Johannesburg by the City Johannesburg Outdoor Advertising Department,” Minnaar said.

This department can be contacted at SonjaP@joburg.org.za, HendaB@joburg.org.za, 011 407 6039 or 011 407 6039.
