Hi-jacking victim is believed to have lied, sold the car

RANDBURG – Hi-jacking case turns perjury after police believe that man sold the car.

A man in his 40s has appeared at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court on charges of perjury, after allegedly lying about a false hi-jacking.

Randburg Police Station spokesperson, Captain Makgwanyana Maja explained that the man first reported the alleged incident at the station on 18 May.

“He was using his car as an Uber and said he was at Montecasino to pick up three men to take to Soweto,” Maja explained.

“The man alleged that at the N1 South off-ramp at William Nicol Drive, one of the men pointed a gun at him. They instructed him to get out of the vehicle and they put him in the boot.”

The man said they drove him to Soweto and left him there without the car, his cell phone and wallet.

“Upon further investigation, it was discovered he was never hi-jacked, but he sold the car. The matter is still at court,” Maja continued.

The captain encouraged residents to not report false cases, as it misdirects resources of the police away from serious issues where they are needed.

People can also end up in jail for opening false cases.

Station Commander Brigadier Michelle Jones thanked the investigating officers for their thorough investigation to eliminate the false case.
