Police bust attempted robbery suspects

RANDBURG – Great working relationship between the police and security companies results in arrests.

Two suspects have been arrested for attempted business robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Two suspects are expected to appear briefly before Randburg Magistrates’ Court, according to Randburg Police Station’s spokesperson Captain Makgowanyana Maja. He said, “It is alleged that on June 25 two suspects came into the business premises to enquire about opening an account. The suspects returned on June 26 and were noticed by the victim whereby security officers and police were notified due to suspicion. Upon the arrival of the security and police, suspects started to run away, dropping cable tyres and a big bag.”

Police pursued the suspects and apprehended them, finding the firearm and ammunition. Maja added that the firearm would be taken for ballistic testing in order to determine if they were not used to commit other violent crimes.

Acting Station Commander of Randburg Police Colonel Solomon Mudau lauded the officers for their quick response which resulted in the arrest and recovery of the firearm which could have led to the loss of lives.

Maja concluded, “Colonel Mudau furthermore encourages the working relationship between police and security officers which always led to positive results through arrests.”
