Randburg’s DJ Chase dedicates his life to music

Well known and experienced DJ, Song writer and Producer embark on the journey of teaching, mentoring and sharing his experience with upcoming artists.

Randburg’s DJ Chase is a music producer, Songwriter, music instructor and House DJ who continues to live and dedicates his life to music.

Matibisi “DJ Chase” Ntshwana grew up in Lebowakgomo, Limpopo and this is where his love for, and journey with music began.

DJ Chase said, “That’s where everything started for me, I’ve always loved singing other people’s songs, I would sing people’s melodies and if I don’t know the lyrics, I would put my own that is where I developed my style of songwriting. Eventually, I picked up an instrument to compose and the first instrument was the guitar, and I informally went to study classical piano for two years.”

DJ Chase went on to pursue his dream and enrolled at the National School of the Arts (NSA) and studied contemporary music and majored in Piano/ Keyboard.

He explained that he formed a band when he was still at school, but he realised the amount of time and energy it took to motivate and keep the band in the same mindset was too much and he decided to take on production.

“As a songwriter and instrument player, I was able to execute the whole song on my own from beginning to end. The last year at NSA I got an opportunity of working with Kabelo “Bouga Luv” Mabalane from TKZEE who gave me a chance to produce his project called Amatsheketshe,” added DJ Chase

DJ Chase continued his journey and worked with DJ Ganyani where he produced and wrote some of the big songs like Xigubhu one of the big songs to come out in 2014, Be There featured Big NUZ and Emazulwini.

The famous DJ now shares his experience and knowledge by teaching at Volume Music Academy. The school situated in Braamfontein opens on weekends and they have a studio in Ferndale, Randburg.

“We train learners to compose and produce by teaching them keyboard technique, music theory, the digital audio software that allows them to record and program music, Deejaying, and Sound engineering. I saw a gap where I could transfer the knowledge to upcoming artists,” said DJ Chase

DJ Chase added that they create a platform where students are able to network with industry experts and other musicians and they organise workshops and invite experienced musicians and other industry experts to share their knowledge with the students.

The sensational DJ is currently working on an EP in collaboration with (South African Music Performance Rights Association) SAMPRA and it will feature some of Volume Academy Students. It is expected to come out in 2023.

DJ Chase advises up-and-coming artists to put time into their craft and that the more they create the better they will get.
