Riding for a good cause in the 947 Joburg Ride

The end goal was to ensure that everyone got to the finish line.

Braam Fischer Drive waterpoint in Randburg was where most cyclists slowed down to get a bite in.

Almost halfway into the race, the cyclists were feeling the pressure. The 947 Ride Joburg -cycle race around Johannesburg was no joke. Over 13,000 people entered the race and only about 8000 people finished the race. “We feel the pressure, but we keep going. Let us dance the cramps away and keep moving towards the finish line,” said the Matsimela Ladies Clinics.

At the 70km mark, Amos Mananyetso and his family members kept cheering for the cyclists to keep moving. “We stood on this particular spot is where they know they are close to the finish line,” said Mananyetso. “Just one more push guys lets goo!!” they cheered. As a sign of motivation, Mananyetso jokingly said, “Get to the finish line, there’s wine there waiting for you after this long day.” The cyclists laughed and kept moving towards the finish line.
