City Power commits to reinstate the pavement

City Power will fix the driveway that was dug up when fixing a faulty cable over a year ago.

City Power apologised to resident Dough Ross for not reinstating his driveway after contractors had to dig up the paving to unearth a faulty cable.
The faulty cable was causing residents to get shocks when they touched their taps in the Ferndale area.

The chairman of the Ferndale Ridge Residents Group Pierre van Wyk claimed they often have problems with entities failing to reinstate dug-up pavements or roads.
“Pavements and streets are left with holes or paving not replaced. Roads will have holes filled with sand and never tarred again. There need to be proper procedures and systems ensuring work is done properly the first time – no temporary repairs, ” he said.

He added it should not be up to the public and councillors to follow up on these issues.

“I reckon management at the entities is to blame. Where is the staff motivation firstly, customer service and work ethic, there is a general ‘don’t care’ attitude very pervasive in the City of Johannesburg entities.”

City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena said regrettably after the repairs the contractor could not immediately reinstate the paving to its original state, partly because they had to rush to attend to other outages in the area.

“According to our records, when that incident occurred, we had a backlog of outages that needed to be cleared expeditiously and we relied on the added assistance of our contractors. It’s unfortunate that it has taken this long to fix the paving. This is not how City Power conducts its business. The entity would like to apologise to the customer for leaving the front side of his property in an unpleasant state.”

Mangena added City Power was committed to reinstate the customer’s paving by no later than April 5 and the work will be conducted by specialist personnel using the right equipment.

“We once again apologise to the affected customer for the inconvenience caused. We encourage customers with incomplete work to log calls on citypower.mobi or call 011 490 7484 or 0800 202 925 a week after repairs are complete.”
