Local boxer delivers a KO in the second round

Highly-rated young boxer Kaine ‘K9’ Fourie showcased brilliant boxing skills and won with a KO in the second round.

North Riding-based boxer Kaine ‘K9’ Fourie recorded yet another ‘short-distance’ win as he stopped Botswana boxer Kutlwano Ogaketse in the second round at a Boxing 5 Promotions tournament.

This was K9’s third straight stoppage win having stopped former South African lightweight and featherweight champion Lusanda Komanisi in November, and Zimbabwean Lancelot Moyo in July last year.

Kaine Fourie wins by knocking out Kutlwano Ogaketse in the second round.

The 22-year-old has recorded seven wins and two draws and is the ABU SADC lightweight champion.
He said going into the first round he knew he was going to be tested in the first minute. His awareness paid off and he landed a flush left uppercut on Ogaketse’s chin inside the first two minutes of the first round. This sent Ogaketse to the canvas for the first time in his career.

“After the knockdown, it gave me so much more confidence going into the second round where I yet again knocked him down for the second time and stopped him right after that.”

He explained that his strategy going into fights is to see what the opponents do in the first minutes and capitalise on their mistakes.

Asked if he was not looking to get more rounds under his belt he replied, “No, if the fight goes more rounds or not it’s not the end of the world, we are there to do business. If it comes quickly on the night it’s even better than going all the rounds so we can’t complain. I just know in my training and sparring that’s where the real rounds are being put in.”

He said it felt amazing to win by knockout, especially because there were a lot of people who doubted him. “People told us this boy (Ogaketse) is too strong, he was never even hurt before, and they were stunned at what happened on the night.”

The champ added he looks forward to adding more belts to his collection.
“Hopefully a championship belt like the IBF All Africa title or junior world title. We will see what my manager has in store for me but I’m 100% it will be for a nice belt at the end of the day and that is why we are here.”
