Amazing Grace Private School showed kindness on Mandela Day by giving back to the less privileged.
The school provided donations such as clothes, stationery packs, toys, and food items to Miracle Mission Children’s Home. Miracle Mission is a home for children in distress, this includes children who have been abandoned, abused, neglected, or that have been infected with HIV.
Nhlanhla Hlanguza, marketing assistant at the school, explained that they wanted to do something different and teach their learners the value of giving back to the community.

“The learners have never participated in such activities, so it was refreshing, and they felt good after putting smiles on people’s faces. The Children’s home is currently registered for 12 children, but has 11 children staying there, all under the age of five. The joy and appreciation from the children and staff were heartwarming.”
The school also partnered with the Fellowship Full Gospel Church, in preparing soup and reaching out to homeless people around Randburg.

Hlanguza said that the church assisted with the necessary equipment needed to prepare the soup and members who helped cook the soup.
“We distributed hot meals to the homeless in Fontainebleau and Windsor. Our only challenge was all the areas we had identified [for] the homeless were empty, but we travelled around and found so many people around Windsor. So, the day was a success.”
She added that the initiative was one of many to come and they are working on implementing a program where the learners will have mandatory participation for community service.
