Her journey into animal rescue began with fostering dogs, a passion that led her to collaborate with various shelters across South Africa. Recognising the need for a centralised platform to reunite lost pets with their owners, Fitzpatrick, with the assistance of a developer, launched Pet Connect. This innovative app, and website, allows users to post and search for lost and found pets, streamlining the process of reuniting families with their beloved animals.

Equipped with a microchip scanner, Fitzpatrick actively scans stray animals in her community, facilitating quicker reunions between pets and their owners. And her efforts don’t stop there. For the past five years, she has organised quarterly microchipping and vaccination events in local parks, ensuring pets are healthy and easily identifiable.

Through her work with Spaniel Rescue South Africa, led by her close friend Amanda Robinson, Fitzpatrick has expanded her rescue efforts to include all animal breeds. Over the past 12 and a half years, she has fostered over 265 dogs, providing them with love, rehabilitation, and a second chance at life. Her home has been a sanctuary for dogs of all breeds and sizes, many rescued from severe abuse. Through patience and affection, Fitzpatrick has helped these traumatised animals heal and find loving homes.

Reflecting on her journey, Fitzpatrick shares: “Helping heal and love the dogs has been the best therapy ever.” Her unwavering dedication not only transforms the lives of the animals she rescues but also serves as a testament to the healing power of compassion.
