Community unites to restore Blairgowrie pool and park

Under the blazing sun, Blairgowrie residents joined forces with local organisations to clean up their community park and pool, preparing for its long-awaited September reopening.

Under the scorching sun, residents of Blairgowrie came together on February 1, to clean up their community pool and park in preparation for the pool’s long-awaited reopening in September. The cleanup effort, led by the Blairgowrie Community Association (BCA), saw enthusiastic participation from local organisations, security companies, and volunteers determined to restore pride in their neighbourhood.

With temperatures soaring, residents worked tirelessly, clearing debris, scrubbing surfaces, and trimming overgrown vegetation around the park and recreation centre. The overwhelming support from the community was bolstered by companies such as SCP Security and Beagle Watch, both of which sent teams to assist.

Beagle Watch’s environmental team played a significant role, with their area manager David Caseiro emphasising their commitment to the area. “We have a strong working relationship with the BCA. As the security company with the biggest presence in Blairgowrie, it was a no-brainer for us to lend a helping hand. Moving forward, we’ll be taking care of the park, ensuring no trespassing or criminal activity takes place.”

Also joining the initiative was the Blairgowrie Muslim Association (BMA), with members eager to contribute. Mohammed Mustapha Khan explained their motivation, saying: “We’re here to help for two main reasons. Firstly, we are neighbours, and as part of this community, we feel compelled to assist where we can. Secondly, I live in Blairgowrie myself, and I want to do all I can to uplift the area.”

The Department of Sport, Arts, Culture, and Recreation was also represented at the event, with Aloma Lourens observing the efforts firsthand. With the pool set to reopen after three years of closure due to faulty equipment, the cleanup was a crucial step in restoring this long-neglected community space.

Despite the intense heat, the dedication of volunteers never waivered, with the collective spirit of residents and organisations ensuring a successful cleanup. As the sun set over a rejuvenated park, Blairgowrie’s community had taken yet another step towards reclaiming and maintaining their public spaces.

With Beagle Watch committing to ongoing security measures and regular community-driven initiatives planned, Blairgowrie residents can look forward to a safer, cleaner, and more vibrant park in the months to come.
