Shoplifters caught on camera at Checkers Ferndale

Security at Checkers Ferndale apprehended three suspects attempting to leave the store with stolen groceries hidden in a trolley, leading to their arrest by police.

Three suspects, two men and a woman, were arrested for shoplifting at a grocery store at Ferndale Shopping Centre on the evening of February 4.

According to police, the incident occurred around 17:40 when a security camera operator noticed suspicious activity inside the store. The suspects were seen selecting groceries from the shelves and placing them inside a black bag hidden in a trolley.

They continued this for some time, appearing to work together. The operator monitored their movements and waited for them at the store’s exit. When they reached the door, security personnel stopped them and asked for their proof of purchase. The suspects were unable to produce a receipt for the groceries inside the trolley.

Store security detained them, and police were called to the scene. The three were arrested and taken to Linden Police Station.Thief apprehended

The stolen groceries were valued at R15 900. It remains unclear whether the suspects had attempted similar crimes before.
