One of the key participants was the South African National Blood Service (SANBS), which set up a donation station to assist people in giving blood. Volunteers guided first-time donors through the process, while regular donors emphasised the importance of maintaining a steady blood supply.

In addition to the blood donation drive, health professionals conducted free screenings for high blood pressure, diabetes, and cholesterol levels. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about preventative healthcare, and ensure that individuals receive early intervention where necessary.

Speaking on the importance of community-driven health initiatives, Xihluke Mabasa, one of the organisers, said: “This initiative aims to foster a culture of health awareness and proactive medical care within our communities. Early detection and preventative measures are crucial in addressing many health challenges we face today.”

Attendees expressed gratitude for the services provided, with many highlighting the convenience of having accessible health screenings in a central location. Organisers stressed the importance of regular check-ups, particularly given the increasing prevalence of lifestyle diseases, such as diabetes and hypertension.

By combining education, screenings, and blood donation efforts, SCJV’s Health Day at Randburg Square successfully brought much-needed healthcare services to the public, reinforcing the importance of health awareness and community engagement.
