Water shut off in Randburg due to emergency pipeline repairs
Residents are asked to be patient as urgent repairs are carried out on a critical water pipeline
Many residents in Randburg may be experiencing water shortages because of an urgent repair on a major water pipeline. Rand Water had to shut down part of its system to fix a broken pipe, which means water supply from the Eikenhof pump station has been temporarily stopped. As a result, some homes and businesses are dealing with little to no water or very low pressure.

Rand Water has warned the community that this disruption may last for a while as they work to get things back to normal. The team is working closely with Johannesburg Water to find ways to support residents during this time, including alternative water arrangements.

In a live update, Sifo Masai, Group Chief Executive of Rand Water, shared what’s happening from Soweto, where a major pipe burst has caused the situation. “We’ve been trying since yesterday to close all 13 valves feeding into the burst pipe, but it’s a tough job because of the high pressure in the line,” he explained. “We’re doing our best to reduce that pressure from our Eikenhof pump station so we can fix the pipe. It might affect other areas temporarily, but it’s the only way to get things sorted.”
