Community rallies Together to clean Up Randburg Square

A clean environment reflects a free and empowered nation that cares for its people and future.

In a show of community spirit, residents and Shincheonji church volunteers joined hands together to clean up Randburg Square and the taxi rank in collaboration with Piktup and Cetric Foundation on May 17.
Not only did the event showcase the importance of community-led initiatives and the roles that residents can play in shaping their environment, but it also highlighted the fact that when people come and put their minds together for a common cause, they can make an impact in the community.

One of the event organisers Millicent Nkomane, said, “As someone who is passionate about doing community outreaches, we saw this as an opportunity to clean this area especially since there are a lot of churches around as you know, ‘cleanliness is next to Godliness’, and we did not want the people who attend those churches to be impacted by the waste that is surrounding the area.”
Volunteer Shalom Marara said, “Every time I walk around Randburg Square I cringe a bit, because of the amount of litter that is around. And the fact that people don’t take the initiative of clean up after themselves. So, when I heard of the clean-up, I knew it was something that I wanted to participate in and be the change in my community in knowing that I was able to contribute towards a cleaner community.”

The community’s response to the clean-up has been positive with many residents appreciating the efforts that were taken by the Shincheonji volunteers and hoping that they will continue doing such community outreaches which will inspire people to participate in and know the difference between right and wrong.
