Volunteer Philip Wood explained their mission was to clear an identified patch of the sanctuary, targeting syringa and black wattle trees and any other alien plants.
“At the same time, weeds were removed and litter was picked up by the enthusiastic group of volunteers. By the end of the work session, we estimate that at least half a hectare was cleared and all possible regrowth prevented by applying a suitable chemical.”
Bronweyn Craig from the Bryanfern Residents Association said she was very proud and grateful for those who supported the initiative.

“Schools all require community service from the older pupils, so we invite all schools in the northern suburbs to get involved,” she said. “It is imperative to keep the waterways clear to avoid flooding up and downstream.
“We appreciate every resident and company’s involvement.”
