Workers discover human skeleton at Zandspruit housing development site
Construction workers at the Zandspruit Ext 84 housing development site discovered a human skeleton on October 25, prompting a police investigation and renewed calls for accountability.
A human skeleton has been discovered at the long-delayed Zandspruit Ext 84 housing site.
Ward 114 councillor David Mangena confirmed that construction workers from TCT Construction discovered the skeleton on October 25. The Honeydew Police Station has since been notified, and a forensic team has been called to examine and collect the remains.

While investigations into the skeleton are underway, Mangena says the incident has once again exposed how prolonged delays at the site have left residents without promised housing. The project, initially set to be completed within 18 months, has now stretched into its fourth year without visible progress.
“This is not just about the skeleton,” Mangena said. “It’s a reminder of how long the people of Zandspruit have waited. Someone is not doing their job, yet they are being paid with taxpayers’ money.”

Mangena added that the community is losing patience and called on residents to stand together to demand accountability from the city’s Human Settlements Department and the Housing Development Agency (HDA).
Local leaders hope the shocking discovery will push authorities to act faster, not only to complete the project but also to restore trust among residents who have been waiting years for their stands.
Police investigations into the origins of the remains are ongoing.
