Lack of reinstatements spark outrage among Blairgowrie residents

Blairgowrie roads have seen growing issues of unfished work from Johannesburg Water after repairs, leading to concerns about damage to cars.

Frustrations grow as neglected reinstatements become a serious issue for residents in Blairgowrie. At the corner on Gordon and Mackay avenues, there is a big hole that was left after Johannesburg Water fixed a leak. Up the road, on Barkston Drive, opposite Randburg Fire Station, there is another big hole filled with water, which has been left open for months.

The roads were dug up by Johannesburg Water when they fixed pipe bursts, but after the repairs, they were never properly restored, leaving gravel that fills with water and creates mud when it rains.

Blairgowrie Community Association chairperson Harold Fleishman explained that it’s been months since the road was left in that condition. “It’s hard to drive here. When it rains, it becomes muddy and hard to see.” The area is not barricaded or taped off.

Resident Tristan Masterton said that he first reported the issue on August 28. “How irresponsible are they to leave such a mess like this? Obviously, they fixed the leaks, and we are grateful, but this is a big mess.”

He added that there hasn’t been a reply from the entity on the calls they have logged. “They don’t reply at all. They should come and restore this road before somebody damages their car.”

Johannesburg Water was sent questions about the reinstatements in Blairgowrie, but they had not replied by the time of print. Their response will be published once made available.
