BCA wishes all happy and safe holidays

The Blairgowrie Community Association co-chair Mark Sher reflected on 2025 and wished residents a happy holiday season.

The Blairgowrie Community Association (BCA) reflected on the year’s wins, while wishing residents a happy Christmas.

Mark Sher, BCA co-chairperson, explained that 2025 was very exciting for the BCA, with them undertaking a major project at the Blairgowrie recreation centre and swimming pool. He said that, with permission from the different departments within City of Johannesburg, they undertook a fence project in the entire Blairgowrie Park, on both the Conrad Drive side and the Park Lane side. “The park is now locked between the hours of 18:00 and 06:00. During the day there are four pedestrian gates which are open and the community and visitors can make use of the park.”

The swimming pool project was a much bigger task, and required a large amount of work to be done in order for it to open. Despite that, it was opened on time on September 1.

Blairgowrie Community Association co-chairs Mark Sher and Harold Fleisman.

Some of the major work done at the pool included:

  • Draining and resurfacing both the adult pool and kid’s pool,
  • New precast wall around the pool
  • Access gates from the recreation centre to the pool
  • Revamp and clean-up of ablution block
  • Revamp of lifeguard office, and Repair and painting of surface around the pool.

A new jungle gym was donated and installed in the lapa area, and the BCA bought their own trailer to use around the suburb during clean-ups. “A huge shoutout to everybody who donated money, goods, services, or time, the BCA says thank you so much. Every little bit helped us complete this task on time.

“Thank you to all my colleagues, full time employees, your hard work is appreciated. Thank you to Ephriam, who maintains and cleans the pool.

“On behalf of the BCA, we wish everybody a safe, healthy, and happy holiday. For those travelling take care and return safely. For those staying behind please go make use of the lapa and the pool.”
