Honeydew Community Policing Forum spreads festive cheer with Christmas lunch for SAPS officers on duty

In a heartfelt show of appreciation, the Honeydew CPF hosted a festive lunch for officers on duty, reminding them that their sacrifices are seen, valued, and deeply appreciated by the community they serve.

The festive season is widely associated with family gatherings, celebration, and rest.

For the dedicated members of Honeydew SAPS, however, Christmas Day often means remaining on duty, away from their loved ones, to ensure the safety and security of the community. In recognition of this ongoing sacrifice, the Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF), with the generous support of residents and businesses, once again hosted its annual Christmas lunch for SAPS members on duty at the Honeydew Police Station.

This heartfelt initiative has become a valued tradition within the community, symbolising appreciation, unity, and respect for those who serve during a time when many are at home. More than simply sharing a meal, the lunch serves as a tangible reminder that the community recognises and values the commitment of its police officers.

“The lunch was very well received, and the members are always deeply appreciative of the continued support,” CPF Public Relations Officer Michael Steyn said. “Being able to share a Christmas meal with the officers on duty is very important to us. It reminds us that they are people too, and by giving back, we show them that they are valued and appreciated by the community.”

On the day, meals were provided to 38 SAPS members who were working throughout Christmas Day. Steyn highlighted the emotional impact of being on duty during such a special time. “Although this is their job, it is still difficult, knowing that many of them have families at home with whom they would much rather be spending the day. They miss out on the excitement of opening presents and enjoying a festive meal because they are at work.”

The festive atmosphere was further enhanced through the generosity of Ranjini Maharajh, from Spice Traditions, who sponsored additional refreshments and a Christmas cake for the officers. “The members loved the lunch, and the sponsored cake was also very well received.” Steyn added that these small touches helped create a sense of warmth and celebration despite the demands of duty.

As the year draws to a close, the Christmas lunch continues to strengthen the relationship between Honeydew SAPS, the CPF, and the wider community. Steyn emphasised the importance of making a meaningful difference, no matter how small. “Making a positive difference is what we strive for. If we can touch even one heart and brighten someone’s day, then we have achieved our goal. In this case, we touched 38 hearts, making it a tremendous success.”

The Honeydew CPF extends its sincere gratitude to the members of Honeydew SAPS for their unwavering dedication and to everyone who contributed to making this initiative a true reflection of community spirit and goodwill during the festive season.
