Blairgowrie pool is ready for its official opening

Blairgowrie Community Association is happy with the progress of the community's swimming pool.

The Blairgowrie Swimming Pool is just a few inches away from being ready for both the public’s access and the official opening.

The Blairgowrie Community Association (BCA) is confident that it will be able to open the pool for the summer in September, for the community to enjoy.

BCA was given the green light by the City of Johannesburg (CoJ) to look after and maintain the park and the neglected pool. After hard work and dedication by the association, Ward 102 councillor Lucinda Harman, Beagle Watch, and other stakeholders and donors, the progress is visible, and a lot of work has been done to revitalising the area.

The pool is now decorated and filled with water. The toilets have been repaired and are in good working condition, the broken basins have been restored, and the signage has been updated and repainted. Taps and new door locks were installed, the lifeguard house was refurbished, and new furniture was purchased.

Co-director of the BCA Harold Fleishman explained that they are ready for the official opening on September 1, thanks to the CoJ and generous donors who assisted with the project. “All that is left now are small touch-ups and cleaning up a few things. We are on the final stretch of the project, and the pool is looking fantastic. All the hard work is done.”

He added that the pool will then be open to the community on September 6. “Residents are all invited to come in and have fun at the pool and also enjoy the fenced park. There will be games for kids to play, and food will also be available.”
