Honeydew CPF vigilance leads to arrest of two suspects

Quick thinking by a Honeydew CPF member and a rapid, coordinated response led to the arrest of two suspects during a cable theft incident in Weltevredenpark.

Swift action and strong collaboration between community safety partners led to the arrest of two suspected cable thieves in Weltevredenpark.

The incident unfolded when a member of the the Community Policing Forum (CPF) noticed suspicious activity near a manhole—an area known for previous cable theft incidents. Trusting their instincts, the CPF member drove past the scene to avoid alerting the suspects and immediately called for assistance via the Honeydew Emergency Group, which links SAPS and local private security companies.

Beagle Watch Armed Response R3 was first on the scene and, working together with the CPF member,6 managed to apprehend two suspects. A third suspect managed to escape before authorities could secure the area.

Additional support arrived6 shortly thereafter, including multiple Honeydew SAPS members, GP Tactical, and 6th Sense, who ensured the scene was fully secured and that the suspects were safely detained.6

“This incident once again highlights the power of collaboration between the community, private security, and SAPS,” said Steyn.

“Because of quick thinking and immediate communication, we were able to prevent further infrastructure damage and make arrests.”

The Honeydew CPF reiterated its commitment to proactive crime prevention and encouraged residents to report suspicious behaviour promptly, emphasizing that community vigilance remains a key factor in keeping the precinct safe.
