Rand Park High welcomes new Grade 8s

A week-long orientation programme helped Grade 8 learners settle in, with tours, team-building activities and guidance from Grade 12 leaders and teachers throughout the week.

Rand Park High School recently welcomed its new Grade 8 learners and their parents at a candlelighting ceremony held as part of the school’s annual inauguration programme.

The ceremony, a long-standing tradition at the school, marked the official start of each learner’s high school journey.

As each candle was lit, it symbolised a new beginning and the passing on of knowledge, values and school spirit from senior learners to the incoming Grade 8 class.

The event formed part of a week-long orientation programme aimed at helping new learners settle into the school environment. Grade 12 leaders and teachers played an active role, guiding the Grade 8s through the school’s academic and extra-curricular offerings, while also explaining daily routines and expectations.

Throughout the week, learners participated in school tours, team-building activities, war cries, meetings with educators, and opportunities to make new friends. The programme concluded with the Grade 8 learners performing a specially written Grade 8 song for their parents.

“This inauguration event has become a popular tradition at Rand Park High School,” said principal Alan Wilke.

“We are very pleased to welcome the Grade 8s and their families and wish them happiness and success during their high school years with us.”
