Randburg Harriers is ready for the new year

Randburg Harriers, a social running club, is looking forward to a new year, new faces, and new races.

Randburg Harriers public relations officer and media liaison Buwi Moeketsi welcomes the club’s old and new members to 2025.

“We hope this time of rest made you ready and enthusiastic to tackle this new race season. Remember to be patient with yourself and allow your body to ease into the new training goals. To our new and potential club members, you’ve made the right choice by joining Team Randburg Harriers. We can’t wait to have you at our weekend runs and time trials.”

She continued to say that every new year brings so much hope and endless possibility, and, in 2025, her main wish for the club is growth and successful races.

“As a runner myself, I am looking forward to all the races and seeing familiar faces. Nothing beats that atmosphere. I’m sure a lot of runners share this sentiment. There is an ongoing joke where non-runners like to question our sanity, or ask us what it is we’re running from. We take it in our stride now. Nothing beats the feeling of knowing that you earned that medal at the finish.”

Randburg Harriers is a social running club with signature colours of black and white. They have 5km and 8km time trials on Thursdays, with the first Thursday of each month being a bring-and-braai day. They also have longer weekend runs, with distances ranging from 10km to 35km. These runs are supported with fully stocked water points.

They are known for hosting the famous Valentine’s 10km Night Race, and the original Easter 100, over Easter weekend, which is a race of three different distances over three days. The 2025 edition will be their 41st. Towards the end of July, as part of the Vitality Run Series, the Randburg Harriers Challenge, a 21km race, takes place, and, as is tradition, the club closes the year with a fun 5km night run, known as The Chairman’s Grog Jog.

Moeketsi said to the community, whether they’re starting the year as a novice runner, working towards a goal of running their first 5km, 10km, half-marathon, marathon, or ultra-marathon, no distance is insignificant.

“No goal is too small or too big. If you’re willing to put in the work, anything can be achieved. Celebrate every victory, regardless of its magnitude. Every individual has their own goals and reasons they decide to lace-up. Focus on yours. Stay in your lane. Most importantly, remember to have fun. There might be a camera around the corner, so, keep that smile on your face.”
