Fire breaks out at Randburg mini-substation

Emergency services rushed to Agulhas Road after a transformer caught fire in Randburg. No injuries were reported, and the cause is still unknown.

Emergency services rushed to the scene of a fire involving a mini-substation in Randburg on the morning of August 8.

The incident happened at the corner of Agulhas and Witklip streets. The Johannesburg Emergency Management Services (EMS) received the alert just before 10:00.

EMS spokesperson Xolile Khumalo confirmed that fire crews were dispatched immediately. “We confirm that EMS firefighters are currently responding to a transformer on fire incident on the corner of Agulhas and Witklip streets in Randburg,” said Khumalo.

City Power officials were also notified and are expected to investigate the cause of the fire. “The cause of the fire is not known at this stage. City Power will elucidate further on the matter,” Khumalo added.

No injuries were reported. However, residents in the area may experience power outages while the scene is being cleared and damage assessed.

Authorities have urged members of the public to stay away from the site for their safety. Motorists using Agulhas Road were also asked to use alternative routes, as emergency vehicles remain on the scene.
