Joburg Water finally attends to major bursts in Ferndale and Kensington B

The pipe has been gushing out water for weeks and has caused further damage to other roads. Joburg Water attempted to repair the pipe but didn’t have the correct materials needed.
Nombuso Shabalala, the spokesperson for Johannesburg Water, explained that the depot team had previously attended to the burst pipe; however, they needed to fabricate a T-Piece pipe so that they could replace the damaged one.

“Initially, the team carried out a temporary repair on the leak while they sourced the necessary material needed to fabricate the T-piece pipe.”
After the leak worsened, the entity has finally begun the repairs and has isolated the water. They are also attending to multiple burst pipes in the area, including a major burst on a 300mm steel pipe on Nerina Road in Kensington B. The pipe has been spraying out water for more than five months.

“Contractors are onsite busy with preparations, including opening fire hydrants to release pressure and will commence with repairs. There is currently no estimated time for restoration; however, these repairs remain a priority. Alternative water is being arranged for critical institutions. Further updates will be provided.”
Affected areas include Ferndale, Fontainebleau, Bryanston, Malanshof, President Ridge, part of Blairgowrie and Bordeaux.
