Community unites with security forces to safeguard Bloubosrand
Black Opps Security steps up to protect City Power mini-substation after it was vandalised twice, leaving residents with no power for days.
In a bold and proactive move, a security company has stepped up to reinforce protection in Bloubosrand, following the vandalism of the mini-substation (MSS) on Aughulas Road.
The MSS, a vital piece of infrastructure for the community, was recently targeted by vandals, prompting urgent repairs and leaving residents without power for days. Recognising the vulnerability of the site, and the potential ripple effects on community services, Black Opps Security, led by owner Ben Poley, has taken swift action to fortify the area.

Reinforcements include increased patrols, surveillance, and co-ordination with municipal teams to prevent further disruptions.
Resident Donald Mthimkhulu expressed strong support for the added security presence, emphasising the importance of defending community assets. “We’re grateful to see more boots on the ground. This is our neighbourhood, and we must protect it together.”

Community leaders are urging neighbours to remain vigilant and act as the eyes and ears of the area. Residents are encouraged to sign up with local security companies to expand coverage and ensure rapid response capabilities.
“The message is clear,” said Mthimkhulu. “Unity and collaboration are the strongest deterrents against crime.”
In addition to guarding the MSS site, Black Opps Security has initiated street-level audits to assess vulnerabilities and track incidents of petty crime.
Poley explained that one growing concern is the theft of municipal bins by roaming individuals, which has led to sanitation issues and financial strain on households. “The audits aim to identify patterns, recommend preventative measures, and support law enforcement in curbing these activities.”
He asked the community to rally behind the security initiative, and recognise that safety is a shared responsibility.
Residents are encouraged to:
- Report suspicious activity immediately,
- Join the neighbourhood patrol group,
- Register with a vetted security company, and
- Attend upcoming community safety briefings.
