Sundowner footballer joins global management programme

Sundowner footballer Thato Molomo has been admitted into a global football and business management programme, representing South Africa while preparing for leadership beyond his playing career.

Sundowner footballer Thato Molomo has been admitted into the football and business management programme at the PFA Business School in the United Kingdom, accredited by the University of Portsmouth.

The course, recognised internationally, is led by top football figures, including former Arsenal executive David Dein, as well as leaders from clubs such as Manchester United, AC Milan, Chelsea, and Crystal Palace.

For Molomo, the programme is more than a personal milestone; it is a chance to represent South Africa in a global space and prepare for life after football. “I’ve been playing football from a young age, and the game has shaped my character, discipline, and resilience. This programme opens doors to knowledge, mentorship, and networks that will help me grow, not just as a player, but also as a leader in the game.”

Molomo has built his career through structured competitions, such as the Hollywoodbets Regional League, and is currently in talks with coach Michael Lotfman about a possible move to Hout Bay FC. He believes the timing of his admission into the programme is ideal, allowing him to invest in his future while still being active on the pitch. “I discovered the programme while searching for ways to develop myself beyond football. To learn from people who have built institutions at the highest level is an opportunity I don’t take lightly.”

For Molomo, education is just as important as talent. “Football is powerful, but it’s not the only thing. Education, discipline, and forward planning are just as important. If you take both your game and your personal growth seriously, doors will open.”

He hopes his journey will inspire other young players to prepare for life beyond their playing careers. “Too many careers end without proper planning. If we prioritise financial literacy, education, and personal growth, alongside football, we’ll raise a generation of players who thrive beyond their playing years.”

Looking ahead, Molomo aims to play a bigger role in football development and administration. Through his company, Molomo Marketing, he hopes to bridge the gap between players, clubs, and institutions. His vision is to create sustainable systems in South African football, which support players, not only as athletes, but as whole individuals. “Education changes everything. When players and administrators understand governance, finance, leadership, and community impact, football becomes sustainable. That’s how we’ll transform the game, here and abroad.”

For now, Molomo is balancing his playing career with preparing for the future. “On the pitch, I’m working towards the next chapter of my career, including the exciting possibility of joining Hout Bay FC. Off the pitch, I’m making the most of this programme and building Molomo Marketing as a platform to empower athletes.”
