Women walk to combat service delivery issues

Ferndale residents joined the Women Who Walk initiative in the early hours of Saturday morning, highlighting service delivery issues, such as water leaks and blocked drains, while fostering stronger community spirit.

Residents in Ferndale joined the Women Who Walk initiative this morning, taking to the streets to log service delivery issues while building stronger community ties.

The initiative, supported by ward councillor Emi Koekemoer, encourages residents to walk through neighbourhoods, note problems, such as water leaks, blocked drains, and zoning concerns, and report them to the relevant authorities.

Resident Leona Wilke explained that today’s walk began outside her home, after the group decided to start from a different point in the suburb, the previous walk taking place in Long Street.

Wilke said she first thought the initiative would only run during women’s month, but the continued participation may turn it into a regular activity. “It’s a nice, women-focused initiative. People get out early in the morning, raise issues, and still have the rest of the day free.”
