Student accused of abuse remains behind bars

A medical student, accused of sexually assaulting six boys aged 10 to 14, is still in custody after bail was denied, with the case now postponed until November 27.

The harrowing case against a 25-year-old medical student and part-time maths tutor accused of sexually assaulting six boys has been postponed, with the suspect remaining in custody. The Randburg Magistrate’s Court granted an adjournment on September 30, pushing the next hearing date back to November 27.

The delay was requested by the prosecutor to allow crucial time for further investigation and, importantly, to ensure the alleged young victims, boys aged between 10 and 14, could receive support from the Teddy Bear Clinic.

The news of the postponement came as a relief to the families. One mother stated: “We are happy that he is still behind bars for at least two months,” expressing the community’s need for security and distance from the accused. The families are now actively requesting access to CCTV footage from the complex’s pool area, believing that could help the case.

The disturbing charges of rape and sexual assault came to light after the man, who resided in the Bromoff complex in Randburg with the victims, allegedly targeted vulnerable children from single-parent families.

Details began to emerge following a tip-off from a new resident, who voiced concerns about the man’s actions in a community WhatsApp group. This prompted one mother to question her 11-year-old son, who courageously revealed the alleged abuse.

According to the affidavit from Detective Constable Cholofelo Mwodisapodi, the boy disclosed being molested, having nude photographs taken last December, and being shown inappropriate images.

The child also claimed he had asked the accused to stop the abuse, but the man refused and insisted it remain a secret. Further allegations state the accused would follow boys into the bathrooms during swimming trips to look at their private parts.

The community of leafy Bromoff is reportedly still reeling from the profound betrayal of trust.

The Randburg Sun will provide ongoing coverage until the case resumes in late November.
