Johannesburg Water finally attends to sinkhole on Knoppiesdoring Road
Repairs are underway at the major sinkhole in Randpark Ridge that was causing frustration for residents and motorists.
Residents of Randpark Ridge are breathing a collective sigh of relief after a Johannesburg Water (JW) contractor finally attended to a persistent sinkhole on Knoppiesdoring Road.
The sinkhole, which formed due to underlying water infrastructure issues, had grown steadily, creating a traffic hazard for motorists and raising safety concerns for residents living nearby. What began as a small leak expanded into a significant sinkhole, forcing drivers to navigate around it and putting additional strain on an already busy suburban road.

Residents expressed mounting frustration as the issue remained unattended, with some reporting near misses and traffic congestion during peak travel periods.
On Sunday, however, JW vehicles arrived on-site, marking the first decisive action in addressing the long-standing problem. Workers assessed the damage, exposed the compromised infrastructure beneath the asphalt, and began repairs.
Residents from the surrounding area watched the progress with relief. “It is a massive job,” said Resident Samantha van Nispen, “but it is happening.”
It’s been stressful driving next to this sinkhole for the residents, and they’ve been worried about accidents.

Motorists were forced to use one lane, which is also heavily affected by potholes. The repair would ease traffic flow and improve safety along the busy road.
JW has not yet issued a detailed statement about the cause of the sinkhole, or whether further work will be required in the area, but residents remain hopeful that this marks the end of the ongoing inconvenience.
With repairs underway, and the road expected to return to full functionality soon, Randpark Ridge residents are relieved to see progress at last.
