Blairgowrie Community Association celebrates community improvements as New Year begins

The BCA welcomed the New Year by celebrating a successful 2025, marked by major upgrades to the suburb’s park, recreation centre, and swimming pool.

As the Blairgowrie community steps into the new year, the Blairgowrie Community Association (BCA) celebrates a remarkable 2025, marked by major improvements to some of the suburb’s most loved public spaces.

Over the past year, the BCA worked closely with several City of Johannesburg departments to secure permission to fence the entire Blairgowrie Park, including the Conrad Drive and Park Lane sides.

The park is now closed between 18:00 and 06:00, offering better safety and protection for residents.

During the day, four pedestrian gates remain open, allowing the community and visitors to enjoy the space as usual.

One of the year’s biggest achievements was the large-scale upgrade of the community swimming pool, which reopened on September 1. The work included draining and resurfacing both the adult and children’s pools, installing a new precast wall around the area, building new access gates from the recreation centre, and revamping the ablution block and lifeguard office.

The surface around the pool also received repairs and a fresh coat of paint.

Families were also treated to a new jungle gym in the lapa area, thanks to a generous donation. In addition, the BCA purchased its own trailer to support ongoing clean-up projects throughout the suburb.

BCA co-chairperson Mark Sher thanked everyone who contributed to the year’s achievements. “A huge shoutout to everybody who donated money, goods, services, or time. Every little bit helped us complete this task on time.”

Sher also expressed appreciation to colleagues Margie Roper, Marlies Bron, and Harold Fleishman, as well as to full-time staff members.

As 2026 begins, the BCA wishes all residents a safe, healthy, and happy New Year.

Those heading away are urged to travel safely, while those staying in Blairgowrie are encouraged to enjoy the improved lapa, the upgraded pool, and the refreshed park facilities.
