Honeydew CPF hosts elderly fraud awareness talk

Honeydew Community Policing Forum will host an elderly fraud awareness talk in Bromhof, focusing on online and banking scams targeting vulnerable community members.

Honeydew Community Policing Forum (CPF) will host an Elderly Fraud Awareness Talk later this month, aimed at helping residents protect themselves from online and banking scams.

The session will take place on January 20, at 11:30, at Tin Road Church, situated at 46 Tin Road, Bromhof. The talk is open to elderly residents, as well as family members, caregivers, and anyone interested in learning more about fraud prevention.

According to the Honeydew Community Policing Forum, the focus of the session will be on common forms of online and banking fraud that often target elderly people. These include scam messages, phone calls pretending to be from banks, and online tricks designed to steal personal or financial information.

The talk will highlight warning signs to look out for, common mistakes people make, and practical steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of becoming a victim. With fraud cases continuing to rise, organisers say education and awareness are among the most effective ways to prevent crime.

Honeydew CPF public relations officer Michael Steyn said the forum strongly encourages elderly residents to attend and to bring along relatives or caregivers who can help support them.

“The more people understand how these scams work, the better prepared they are to protect themselves,” Steyn noted.

The CPF hopes the talk will empower community members with knowledge and confidence, while also strengthening cooperation between residents and local crime prevention structures.

Residents are encouraged to attend and help spread the word to elderly neighbours who may benefit from the information.
