Spark Cresta hosts police for a talk about bullying
Spark Cresta welcomed Sergeant Takalani Sibiya, from the Linden South African Police Service, to speak to grades 4 to 7 scholars about bullying, safety, and child protection.
Learners at Spark Cresta had a meaningful and honest conversation about bullying and child protection when a local police officer visited their school last month.
Sergeant Takalani Sibiya, from the Linden South African Police Service, spent time with grades 4 to 7 learners, speaking to them about safety, respect, and personal rights.
Instead of it feeling like a formal talk, the session opened the door for real discussion. Learners were encouraged to share their thoughts and ask questions. Many spoke confidently about what safety means to them and how bullying can affect others. Some reflected on the importance of standing up for themselves, while others spoke about looking out for their friends. Their willingness to speak openly showed both courage and understanding.

The visit forms part of the school’s ongoing effort to help children understand their rights and responsibilities. By giving them the tools to recognise unsafe situations and the confidence to speak up, the school hopes to create a stronger culture of care and support among learners.

Principal Mamta Bhula said conversations like these help shape confident and informed young people. She explained that creating a safe environment is not only about having rules in place, but about helping children understand their rights and giving them the confidence to use their voices when something is wrong.

By working closely with local police, Spark Cresta is building a relationship that goes beyond the classroom. The goal is simple: To ensure every child feels safe, heard, and supported, both at school and in the wider community.
For the learners who took part, the day was more than just a talk; it was a reminder that their voices matter and that there are adults around them who are ready to listen and help.
