Authenticity and dignity play a central role at the Kindness Like Confetti donation drive
A highly emotional speech on sisterhood and a moving donation drive by Kindness Like Confetti emphasised the power of women uplifting one another.
Unity, vulnerability and compassion took centre stage at a women’s gathering, where attendees embraced their true selves while supporting those in need through the Kindness Like Confetti donation drive.
The event, led by the South African Council for Business Women (SACBW), united women from different parts of the community to share encounters, connect and contribute to a worthy cause aimed at restoring dignity.
Guest speaker Tessa Keyser gave a very powerful speech focused on the theme of authenticity, which she referenced as ‘As Authentic as a Good Bra’, which meant that women should be there and uplift each other as a good bra would.

“In the last few weeks, I have experienced it first-hand, and I did not think when I wrote the speech six weeks ago that it would hit home this hard. That is why it was just tears all around because it was actually women supporting women.”
Keyser became visibly emotional during her speech. She added that the women in the council had supported her in the past two weeks, hence the emotional response.
Alongside the event was the Kindness Like Confetti donation drive, which is aimed at collecting gently worn and freshly laundered bras and panties to support women in vulnerable situations.

Hermien Marais, a representative of Kindness like confetti, said that the campaign has been going on for a few years, and it is one of their regular projects.
“It is just to provide dignity to ladies who are in need and in difficult situations. So usually those taken out of abusive situations, just to give them support so that they can stand up for themselves.”

Marais mentioned that the need for basic items such as underwear is important, as women often prioritise other essentials over personal care.
Attendees supported the initiative by donating what they could. Elizabeth Ezra praised the idea behind the donation drive, noting that she appreciates women caring for other women.
“With the time and economy that we have right now, it is needed, we are to be the good bra,” she said.

The gathering served as a reminder that a person is a person through other people and that an individual does not have to struggle because great communities still exist.
