Learners and teachers at Cooper College spray their hair

Matric learners enjoy spraying the hair of their teachers.

Learners at Cooper College and Magic Beings Nursery School had a blast at the 20th annual shavathon for Cansa.

While it was technically only a sprayathon, as there was no shaving, youngsters were super excited to have brightly-coloured hair.

When their teachers had their turns, the matric learners doing the spraying were all too eager to oblige. “Every year our children support the Cansa Shavathon with so much empathy,” said the parent of grade 3 and 6 learners Warren van Niekerk.

“It’s so heart-warming to see the Cooper College community come together in support of a wonderful cause, close to all our hearts.”

The De Abreu family collectively commented that this had been an important cause for them for many years. “Our learners and staff looked beautiful in all the different colours,” they said.

Just about all the 900 children and 90 staff members had their hair sprayed. The school purchased the spray on their behalf.

Learners were asked to donate R10 towards the campaign but this was not strictly enforced.

The marketer at the North Riding schools Dineo Mashao said the funds raised for Cansa were still being calculated and the schools were grateful to all the families who contributed.
