Soapbox racing again a hit at Rand Park Primary
Annual soapbox fundraiser also encourages social cohesion, principal says.
About 3 000 people crowded the field at Randpark Primary School for a day of soapbox racing, inflatable fun and local markets.

Excitement was in the air at the annual soapbox fundraiser on August 5, which is always a hit and well-supported by the community. Youngsters were cheered on by their parents as they took turns pushing and driving around the tracks at lightning-fast speed.

As if that consumed no energy at all, they then climbed and bounced on the inflatables for hours while their parents watched on or browsed goods for sale.

“We don’t like to ask for money often but with our low school fees we do need to do this every year. We are so thankful to everyone who came through,” smiled school principal Nic Pienaar.

“For us, it is not just about education in a classroom. Events like this teach and encourage social cohesion. Every year it is a highlight for me.”

He said the money would go towards installing solar power for the school.

Volunteers from The Barn Church were very active on the day, helping to coordinate the racing and fun zone.
