In previous years, it was a nightmare every December whenever the garbage guys came and harped (and harped and harped and harped) at the gate about getting Christmas gifts and/or donations.
I myself don’t mind giving whatever I can, but I have often found that it is simply not enough.
Give to one refuse remover and a horde of others will stampede toward your gate, demanding to get an equal share.
And, Lord forbid, you don’t have more to give, then they swear at you or insult you for not having something to share with all of them.
My advice this year, however, is to keep things like left-over food and unwanted consumables separate to your normal waste, thus making it easier for them to differentiate what they can take for themselves (this includes the trolley men) and what is unwanted refuse.
Also, mark it properly and only insert it on the top of your wheelie bin on the day it should be collected to avoid having it go off – no one wants rotten food, least of all refuse removers, who might hold it against you in future.
The same goes for other unwanted items throughout the year which can still be reused or redistributed.
But on a final note: I would like to thank Pikitup staff for working tirelessly throughout the year.
What you guys do for a living can be harrowing, I’m sure.
But the services you render are of utmost necessity to us and we are truly grateful. Thank you Pikitup.
