Sport conquers idle hands

Cosmo Conquerors Youth Development received a boost with a donation of soccer kit from Halfway Toyota Honeydew.

David Lukhele of the organisation said there were 110 children in the progamme which aimed to keep children out of trouble and off the street.

“Our involvement with the youth helps the Cosmo City community with prevention of potential idle youth issues such as crime, substance abuse, and illicit sexual behavior.”

Youngsters are taught life skills and are helped with school work, chiefly mathematics, science, and accountancy.

“Sport plays a huge part in discipline and the donation of the kit gives our teams something to identify with. We are registered with the Mogale City SAFA promotional league.”

Dealer principal Hans Steinkopf said it was part of giving back to the community. “There is kit for the u14 and u16 teams, as well as soccer balls.”

He is already involved with a team in Zandspruit and believed sport was a key ingredient for the development of children. “Maybe, one day, some of these youngsters will make it to the national team. Providing a little assistance now will hopefully set them on that path.”
