Smashing junior champs

BOSKRUIN – Junior mixed championships sees tough competition for the players.

Tough tennis championships were held at the Boskruin Tennis Club this week.

The Boskruin Junior Club Championships are held every year in July for three weekends in a row.

This weekend saw the U12 and U16 boys and girls compete in doubles matches.

“We believe the life of the club is making sure the juniors are a big part of the club’s activities,” said committee member, Wayne Kets.

A round robin was played to determine which team made it to the finals.

The final games were riveting for spectators as the players showed great spirit and worked well with their partners. The skill learned during practices was evident with skillful sets played for both the girls and boys matches.

The overall winners were:

Doubles U12:

Boys – Reece Anley and Reece Mansfield

Girls – Shannon Groome and Erin Jacobs.

Doubles U16:

Boys – Christian and Colby Still

Girls – Chloe Still and Anja Pistorius.

The club hosted the singles championships over the previous weekend. A total of 33 players entered for the U12 and U16 club singles championships.

The winner in the boys U12 category was Reece Mansfield with Taniel Nevin winning the girl’s division.

Kera Healey took first place in the U16 girl’s category, while the U16 boy’s finals will be determined on 6 August.

The mixed event will be hosted tomorrow ( Saturday, 31 July).
