The best of fives at Old Parks

BORDEAUX – A whopping 16 teams compete for glory at Fast Sports Fusion Tournament.

The Fast Sports Fusion Tournament drew 5-a-side soccer teams from across Joburg to compete for ultimate glory at Old Parktonian Sports Club on 29 July.

The 16-team event featured a group stage before cup and plate playoffs, semi-finals and finals. Matches of 15 minutes each, without a half-time break, ensured the event sported non-stop action throughout the day.

“The highlight for me was that is was incident free, with no drama on the day, which we tend to have at tournaments,” said Fast Sports Fusion co-owner, Marc van der Sluys. “All the games were competitive but clean and all the teams had fun.”

Royal Lakes pipped Football Flava in the cup final 3–2 on penalties, walking away from the tournament with a R15 000 cash prize. Other winners were the team Public Enemy, who won the plate competition, and Sherwin Smith and Goodwin Mugari who won golden boot and golden glove respectively.

The 5-a-side soccer tournaments are held at the arena every two months. “It is a great way to improve your fitness and keep healthy and active,” added Van der Sluys. “It is very social and fun but also competitive and there are cool prizes for winners.”
